What are wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth or third molars are the last teeth in the 4 corners of your jaw.

Why does it pain during wisdom teeth eruption?

Wisdom tooth pain is one of the most common causes of dental pain. These pesky teeth erupt between 18-30 yrs of age, when all other teeth have erupted and jaw growth is complete. Because of this, these latecomers do not have space in the jaws! So they fight with their neighbours for space and push or erode them. Or they try to erupt in weird angles and harm cheeks and gums.

Wisdom tooth pain is simply terrible! It not only affectes the jaw, but sometimes radiates to the ear, temples and neck. It may even result in swelling of jaw and limited mouth opening. And the worst thing is that it is cyclic- the patient usually experiences cycles of pain every 3-4 months! What a nightmare!

What is the solution to this?

Wisdom tooth extraction is the permanent solution to this problem. These teeth are tilted and harm adjacent teeth and gums. They are not even useful in chewing. So the best thing to do is get these troublesome buggers removed!

How is the wisdom tooth surgery done?

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon can remove (extract) a wisdom tooth. The procedure often can be done in the dentist's or surgeon's office . It is done under local anaesthesia, after completely numbing the side of your jaw. You may have the surgery in the hospital under general anaesthesia, especially if you are having all your wisdom teeth pulled at one time or if you are at high risk for complications.

If you have wisdom tooth pain, book an appointment with us. We will analyse the position and angulation of the tooth in the jaw and its proximity to important nerves and blood vessel using an Xray. In most cases, the tooth has to be sectioned and surgically removed because of its angulated position so as to not harm other teeth and delicate nerves and blood vessels. Our oral surgeon is the best in Nagpur for this surgery! The recovery is fast and you can go directly to work after the surgery (even though we would recommend you take the day off because the anaesthesia can make you slightly woozy).

Is wisdom tooth surgery very painful?

The surgery is not painful because the area is made totally numb by giving anaesthesia. Done expertly by our Oral Surgeon at Crowns & Roots, you can expect the procedure to be done in 30-50 mins!
